Apple Organics Review

Friday 10 October 2014

I was so overjoyed to try not one- but four products from the lovely Jessica from Apple Organics. (In fact, it definitely made my week) I was so excited to try some organic products with some key dermatological actives used across the board in high-end facials. These ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid, active vitamin C and plant stem cells ofcourse had the scientist and beauty lover in me buzzing with excitement. These products work beautifully, and are perfect for anyone who wants to step up their anti-ageing routine but still wants to maintain a natural skincare routine. I would recommend buying the set, as each compliment each other very well. You only have to read the About page to fall in love with the ethos behind the company- The owner, Jessica, a trained Esthetician wanted something free of artificial chemicals and wanted to create something effective and organic. It was a very exciting concept for me to try a range that wouldn't look out of place in a professional facialists or Dermatology clinic- but 100% natural, organic, vegan and ethically and sustainably produced- perfect!

The first product I tried was the  Geranium Deep Cleansing oil. I am an avid fan of using oils (especially one that contains beautiful jojoba and geranium ) to remove makeup- it replenishes skin lipids and leaves a beautiful soft sheen to your skin without a greasy finish. If you are finding your normal makeup removers are leaving your skin drab- I would definitely recommend this.  I actually was just putting a tiny bit on under my makeup because it gave me such a glow! I also used the cleanser for some dry skin on my arms when washing in the shower- it is just a gorgeous versatile product and I was very sad when I used it all up!

I also tried the Bright & Tight Peptide Eye Gel which really smoothed fine lines around my eyes and was very cooling and soothing. I also suffer from dry skin and dark circles under my eyes, and this definitely improved this. I am a big believer in investing in a good eye cream in your 20s, and this is brilliant.

The Hyaluronic Rich Restore serum was a pampering night time treat for my skin and smoothed away fine lines. It has a very refreshing cucumber like scent and is is great if you want a rich, creamy moisturiser. The Professional Anti-ageing Vitamin C serum really tightened up my skin and left it extremely soft and fresh. These all last for a very long time as a little goes a long way and the ingredients are so well put together and diverse, that I would definitely recommend these as an anti-ageing routine.

The Science Behind The Beauty?

There are so many ingredients to love in these serums! I love how they have set the wonder actives such as high concentration vitamin C, in natural skin nourishing carrier solutions such as Aloe and jojoba. Apple Organics have used 100% vegan hyaluronic acid, which is a dermatology wonder ingredient, and products with high concentrations of this usually cost far more than this serum- making it fantastic value.

In the Hyaluronic Acid serum, the use of Hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occuring molecule in the body, has some key biophysical properties, such as its hygroscopic ability to attract and hold water, and the ability to be both viscous and elastic; which are pertinent qualities for dermal tissue formation. As a consequence, Hyaluronic acid has a plethora of skin loving benefits, such as assisting wound healing, regeneration, new cell turnover, and increased hydration.  It is the amazing ability of hyaluronic acid to hold so much water, that makes it a wonder moisturiser (I read it can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water)   On a slight side note- an amazing article  talks about how in one study a group of Japanese men and women in their 80's and 90's still had full heads of hair and smooth wrinkle free skin. It was found to be related to the amount of oestrogen containing foods in their diets such as tofu and soya. Oestrogen is linked to sending signals to  the body to start producing more  Hyaluronic acid- I will be eating my tofu salad tonight!

Another fantastic addition, Glycolic acid, increases Collagen and hyaluronic acid in cells. The duo make a powerful anti-ageing combination. For the Vitamin C serum, the active vitamin C at 20%  combined with Vitamin E is absolutely perfect for boosting skin tone and recovering sun damaged skin. Vitamin C was added in as Sodium Ascorbyl phosphate, which is then converted into vitamin C once it has been absorbed via a biochemical pathway. This means the formulation can use the higher 20% concentration.  A very clever formulation step and I am so pleased I can use a vitamin C serum and it be as gentle as this one. This serum also uses MSM, which I believe will definitely be increasingly used in skincare due to its sulphur rich properties. Clinical trials have shown improvement in skin tone, itching, redness and hydration in Rosacea.

In the Bright and Tight peptide eye gel,  it has the addition of Matrixyl 3000 made up of two peptides, which has some fantastic statistics such as a 33% decrease in wrinkle density by stimulating  collagen production. This is a very exciting ingredient indeed! My favourite from the range was the Geranium Deep Cleansing oil- The addition of hemp and jojoba oil are perfect for moisturising and replenishing the lipid barrier, while Geranium has extremely skin calming effects and has been shown to reduce skin               inflammation significantly in studies.

5/5 test tubes The list of fantastic ingredients is endless and the
enterprising plant derived actives are amazing.

I really hope you've enjoyed this post- do you have any organic anti-ageing skincare tips?
